Profile
Atsushi Shiraki is a transnational family lawyer based in Tokyo, Japan. Dual-qualified in Japan and the United States (New York and Maryland), he provides advice on transnational divorce law to clients residing in Japan and abroad, primarily in the United States. By taking advantage of his four-year experiences at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, William S. Richardson School of Law, he also handles cross-border family law, inheritance law, and transactional laws involving state laws and regulations of Hawaii, collaborating with local counsels.
In addition, he represents Japanese businesses and individuals, especially in accessing foreign evidence in the U.S., and international clients in obtaining evidence located in Japan for their domestic proceedings. His academic contributions to transnational evidence-taking between the U.S. and Japan are well-acknowledged in the Japanese legal community. He co-authored a book on cross-border litigations between the two jurisdictions and published several law review articles on access to extraterritorial evidence in top-tier Japanese legal journals. He, as a tenured law professor at the University of the Ryukyus, Law School in Okinawa, Japan, is also passionate about teaching Japanese family law and conflict of laws to law students.
